Our Mission and Principles
To save lives of Felines in need by providing shelter, food, affection, enrichment, veterinary care, spay and neuter for homeless cats while securing forever homes.
Paws and Whiskers is a Top-Rated all feline no-kill shelter. We are a not-for-profit Ohio Corporation. Chartered in October of 1996. The shelter, governed by a Board of Directors, is dedicated to providing a safe haven for our unwanted feline friends. While providing shelter, food, love, and veterinary care for the area's homeless, unwanted, and orphaned felines, we work to find them safe, loving homes. In 2024 we took in 896 cats and kittens, we found forever homes for 959 cats and kittens! We start each year with many cats already in shelter waiting their turn to be picked! Our goal in 2025 is to save even more and find them their forever loving homes.
Each feline resident receives a medical exam. Upon arriving at the shelter, each cat is weighed, checked for any obvious injuries, treated for intestinal parasites, checked for fleas and given a flea treatment. They are then given food, water, and a safe warm place to sleep. All cats 6 months of age and up, are blood tested for Feline Leukemia, and FIV. All cats are tested for Heartworms and are tested for Panleukopenia (parvo virus). All cats are microchipped and are vaccinated for calicivirus, panleukopenia, and feline viral rhinotracheitis.
All cats are spayed or neutered before they leave the shelter. Any significant dental problems or other serious conditions are surgically corrected. The average amount spent on each resident during their stay is over $350.00. If the cat is sick (which many are), requires medications or surgery that amount is exponentially higher.
Return Policy for cats adopted within 30 days; We will accept our Paws adopted cat back within 30-days of adoption date. No surrender fee will be charged. We do require that the adoption folder also be returned. An intake appointment does need to be made, we will not accept any walk-ins for returns without an appointment. Space MUST be available in the shelter to accommodate the cat. The adoptive owner MUST fill out a surrender form that can be found under the "Surrender Tab".
Return Policy for cats adopted over 30 days; If the cat has been adopted for more than 30 days a surrender fee of $30 is required, adoption and vet records MUST be brought in with the cat at the time of surrendering. Surrenders must fill out a "Surrender Application" found under our Surrender Tab. A surrender appointment must be made as we cannot accept walk-ins without an appointment.
The cat MUST be healthy and fully adoptable. We are unable to take in any cat with major behavioral issues. Paws adopts out for indoor only pets, cats with major behavioral issues that do not meet indoor pet only criteria will not be able to be accepted into the shelter. Adoptive owner will need to seek alternative placement such as barn programs or sanctuary.
We receive no government funding and no United Way financial support - all funding to help the cats come from private donations, surrender and adoption fees.
We are committed to helping cats and kittens by finding them loving forever homes. Providing needed medical care, spay/neuter surgery, while housing them in a safe, healthy, clean, and loving environment until their forever homes can be found. Join us in our mission to help care for all these deserving cats and kittens. Every donation big or small makes a difference.
