On April 20th, 2008 the Paws and Whiskers Spring Texas Hold'em Festival concluded with Sherrie Hataway walking away as our first female winner.  Sherrie bested 79 other players in the final round to go home with the $1,300.00 first place check. 2007 Toledo Texas Hold'em

Championship 

The area’s best poker players played off against each other November 9th, 10th, and 11th, 2007 to benefit Paws and Whiskers. The event took place at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge located on Independence Ave. in Toledo. A field of nearly 300 players was pared down to 16 on Sunday afternoon with Justin Broka, Of Whitehouse, eventually winning the title of 2007 Toledo Texas Hold’em Champion.   Justin out lasted Andrew Johns, who finished second, on an “All In” to collect a first place prize of $2,000.00. In addition Justin was awarded an engraved championship bracelet and an automatic spot in next years finals. 2005 Champion Ron Jaquay and 2006 champion John Ernst both made the final round but were not able to advance to the final table. 2007 Toledo Texas Hold’em championship attendees had the opportunity to visit with some of our feline friend, that were available for adoption, browse the Krafting for Kitties table for gift ideas, or try their skill at the paintball skills range. Two of our feline friends found new loving homes during the tournament and the our crafters made a number of sales to benefit the shelter.
